VOTERS IN THE TOWN OF UPPER MARLBORO ELECT FIVE MEMBERS TO BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
The town board will consist of three returning members and two newcomers, certified final results show

UPPER MARLBORO, MD (Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023) – Voters in the Town of Upper Marlboro today elected five members to its governing Board of Commissioners. The newly elected board will consist of three incumbent members -- Mayor Sarah Franklin, Charles Colbert, and Karen Lott -- along with newcomers Derrick Brooks and Alma Prevatte.

Upper Marlboro Town Clerk John Hoatson released the final election results shortly after 10:15 p.m. tonight. There are no individual precincts reporting; it is a town-wide election with no political party affiliations for the candidates.

As stipulated by Town Charter, the President of the Board, also known as Mayor, will NOT be determined by the final vote count. The five elected Commissioners will caucus shortly after Election Day and reach consensus on who the new Mayor will be.

In August 2022, the three-member Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution that increased the composition of the Town's elected body from three to five members, consisting of four Commissioners and one President/Mayor.
