Downtown Upper Marlboro Historical Property Damaged

The Town of Upper Marlboro Police Department is currently investigating an accident which occurred roughly at 10pm on Monday November 26, 2018 in which a vehicle exited the roadway in the area of Governor Oden Bowie Drive and Elm Street in the downtown area of Upper Marlboro at a high rate of speed. The vehicle struck and damaged a County-owned vacant historic property (Old Marlboro Primary School), located within the Town of Upper Marlboro. The Town has notified the County Office of Central Services and the Prince George’s County Historic Preservation Commission. This incident is an active ongoing investigation being led by the Town of Upper Marlboro Police Department. If you have any information related to this accident, please contact the Town of Upper Marlboro Police Department at 301.627.6905.

The damaged structure was a local primary school constructed in 1896. Noteworthy for the role it played in education, the Old Marlboro Primary School is most significant for the role it played in the early years of public education for girls in Prince George’s County.
