Use
of Cookies
A cookie is a piece of data
stored on the user's hard drive containing information about the user, such as a login name and password for a Web site.
Usage of a cookie is usually in no way linked to any personally identifiable information, such as your name, unless you use your name as your login name.
Once users close their browser, cookies
may simply terminate. Other times, cookies remain on your computer to facilitate future visits to a particular Web site. For example, if a Web site requires a password to enter any Web pages, the user
would not have to type a login name and password more than once on the first visit, but the login would be automatic on subsequent visits, thereby saving time
while on a site.
A user may always decline to have a cookie installed on their computer. Consult your Web browser or software for information on how to set various levels of security. If a user rejects a cookie, they usually may still use
a Web site, in general or anonymously. However, without a required cookie, the user may be limited
to some areas or services of a Web site.
Cookies also enable Web site owners to track and target the interests
of users to enhance their experience on a Web site. The Town does not currently use cookies on the Web site.
