Vote-150x150 Every two years, on the even numbered years, qualified voters in the Town elect 3 persons as Commissioners to serve a two-year term.

The 2020-2022 Board of Town Commissioners Election will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020. The polls will be open from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Town Hall, 14211 School Lane, Upper Marlboro.

If you are already registered to vote with the County, then you are automatically registered to vote in the Town of Upper Marlboro. If you are not, or care not, to be registered with the County Board of Elections, you can still register with the Town ONLY.

The deadline to register to vote is Monday, December 9, 2019. 

If you are a registered voter of the Town and will not be present on January 6 from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. or are unable to physically come to the Town Hall, you can request an absentee ballot. an absentee voter application will be mailed to you, or, drop it off at Town Hall. You may request an absentee ballot application starting on Friday, December 6, 2019 by 5:00 p.m. The last day you can request an absentee voter application is Friday, December 27, 2019 by 5:00 p.m. The deadline to return your absentee ballot is before the polls close on January 6, 2019 at 8:00 p.m.

Please mail your written request with your name and return address to the Board of Supervisors of Elections, 14211 School Lane, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772 and, upon approval, a ballot and instructions will be mailed to you. Or, you can arrange upon request, to pick-up your materials at Town Hall during working hours, on any weekday that is not a holiday.

Candidate Information: In order to register as a candidate, you must meet the following conditions as set forth in the Town Charter, under Section 82-4. (Qualification of Commissioners), candidates:

-shall have resided in the Town for at least two years immediately preceding their election;
-shall be qualified voters of the Town; and
-shall be at least 25 years of age.
-Furthermore, under Section 82-26. (Candidates): "Any person qualified to hold the office of Commissioner and desiring to be a candidate for such office shall file with one of the Supervisors of Elections a written statement to that effect on or before the second Monday in December next preceding the election at which he desires to be a candidate or his name shall not be printed on the ballot."

The name of any qualified person may be certified for candidacy and shall be printed on the ballot upon a petition of 10 or more qualified voters of said Town filed with one of the Supervisors of Elections on or before the second Monday in December next preceding the election or his/her name shall not be printed on the ballot. Mail your written statement to the Board of Supervisors of Elections, 14211 School Lane, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772 or drop it off at Town Hall. The deadline for candidate petitions is Monday, December 9, 2019 C.O.B.

The Board of Supervisors of Elections allows registered voters to assist them during election day. If you are interested, please send a written statement to the Board of Supervisors of Elections, 14211 School Lane, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772 or drop it off at Town Hall. Although there is no deadline, it would be helpful for the Board to know this as soon as possible.

If you would like to be a poll watcher for a candidate, please contact the candidate and ask the candidate to request and fill out a “Watcher” Form available at the Town Hall. The poll watcher must be a registered voter. Mail the form to the Board of Supervisors of Elections, 14211 School Lane, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772 or drop it off at Town Hall. The deadline is Thursday, December 26, 2019.

The deadline to register to vote is Monday, December 9, 2019. Special registration times will be available on that day at the Town Hall. Before that date, if you chose Town registration only, you can come into the Town Hall, 14211 School Lane, Upper Marlboro MD, 20772, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We also have County registration cards available that allow you to vote in any Town, County, State or Federal election.

You can download the voter registration form from the Maryland State Board of Elections. Mail your form to the Board of Elections, 16201 Trade Zone Avenue, Suite 108, Upper Marlboro, Maryland 20774, or deliver it in person from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

You can also fill out the form in person at the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA), 10251 Central Avenue, Largo, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday or 11760 Baltimore Avenue, Beltsville, MD 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
